Frequent Flying

Since I took over the Product Marketing organization at work, my travel responsibilities have picked up dramatically. With over 70,000 miles racked up by mid-year, I know certain flight crews on a first name basis and the reservations desk routinely offers me complementary upgrades. My passport has almost run out of room for visa stamps from customs. I've watched the Nicholas Cage in-flight movie, National Treasure, over 8 times (not sure why United can't get newer releases). My best gadget purchase this year was an iPod so I could pass the time listening to podcasts during long flights.

There are those who long for more opportunities to travel and spend time away from home. Ironically, I am sometimes envious of them. I don't ever grow comfortable being away from Teresa and the kids. But these frequent absenses have turned out to be a blessing. God is making sure that I do not take things for granted. He's teaching me to enjoy every opportunity I spend time with my family. Daily interactions with the kids -- like brushing their teeth, giving them baths, reading them stories and even eating popsicles together...have become cherished moments, savored with the realization that Karinna and Jeremy can't postpone their growing up... just because I'm away on business trips.

Note: This post was made from my RIM Blackberry from gate B9 at Chicago's O'Hare airport. My flight from Milwaukee got delayed so I missed my connection to SFO from Chicago. doh!

Your travel habits sound very much like that of a PGA Tour player. Hmmmm....are you hiding something, Tiger Chong?

I appreciate your post...its those small yet precious moments that we will all miss as the kids grow up.
