He Watches Over Us

Last night there was a terrible trajedy. A disgruntled postal worker shot and killed six postal employees and left another critically wounded. The Santa Barbara newspress provides the grusome details. The scene of the crime was the postal facility in Goleta California, the same office where my brother has worked for many years. The shootings began around 9:15pm, right during my brother's normal swing shift hours.

However, my brother left on vacation last Thursday for a week to travel overseas. He rarely ever takes time off, preferring to accumulate extra hours of pay at overtime rates. The first weeklong vacation he has taken in a long time came during the same week that a deranged shooter went on a killing spree at his place of work. Some would say that this is a result of fortunate coincidence. But I only see God's merciful hand working to protect those He calls His own.

Psalm 121

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;

4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;

8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
