Keeping Secrets
A while ago, I decided to get the kids involved with giving their mother birthday gifts. I waited until Teresa ran out to do errands and I got the kids to help wrap and hide the gifts. I also had them sign, seal, and address the birthday card. My instructions were very explicit. Do not tell Mommy about the presents. Do not tell Mommy where the presents are hidden. Do not give Mommy the card ... until her birthday. Both Karinna and Jeremy were thrilled that they actually held knowledge of something completely unbeknownst to their mother. Karinna was disciplined enough to keep the secret.
Jeremy, on the other hand, could not contain his excitement and ran straight to Teresa to tell her

Mommy, I know something I can't tell you. It's in a purple bag and you don't get to know until your birthday because its going to be a surprise! and I'm not going to tell you about the card that Daddy told me to keep in my drawer either! When she heard this, Karinna had this look of horror on her face, as if someone had given terrorists the secrets to developing nuclear weapons... Teresa was very amused.
